Panthers Open Regular Season Wednesday, Nov. 7
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh and its multimedia rights holder IMG announced Tuesday that Josh Rowntree will serve as the voice of the Pitt women's basketball team this season.
"We are thrilled to have Josh join our team this season," said first-year head coach Lance White. "I look forward to working with him as we get the season underway next week."
Rowntree is a familiar voice in the Pittsburgh area, serving as a reporter and update anchor for KDKA-FM and 93.7 The Fan, covering Pittsburgh's professional and collegiate sports teams.
"I am incredibly grateful to both IMG and the University of Pittsburgh for allowing me this amazing opportunity," Rowntree said. "I am looking forward to working with Coach White, his staff and team as they begin a new era in Pitt women's basketball."
Rowntree takes over with a strong background in play-by-play announcing, serving as a play-by-play announcer and color commentator on the ACC Network Extra for various baseball, softball, volleyball and soccer games. He also has worked as a play-by-play announcer for Carlow University Athletics.
A 2010 graduate of Point Park University's School of Communication, he has also served as a national contributor to Associated Press Radio. Rowntree got his start with TribLIVE Sports Network (formerly MSA Sports Network), covering WPIAL teams as a broadcaster, writer and social media manager.
Fans can tune into the Pregame Show on 1320AM WJAS or online at PittsburghPanthers.com beginning 10 minutes prior to tipoff. Rowntree will recap the game on the Postgame Show following each game.
Pitt hosts Gannon in an exhibition game Tuesday, Oct. 30 (7 p.m.) before opening the regular season Wednesday, Nov. 7 against Central Florida. The Panthers host UCF for its annual "School Day" at 11 a.m. at the Petersen Events Center with former Pitt great Shavonte Zellous scheduled to be in attendance.
Season tickets and single game tickets are now on sale for the 2018-19 season. Fans may purchase tickets online by visiting PittsburghPanthers.com or by calling the Panthers Ticket Office at 800-643-7488.
