PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh men's soccer team is set to host Temple Monday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at Ambrose Urbanic Field.

LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt fell to Virginia Tech, 3-1, Friday, Oct. 12 at Thompson Field in Blacksburg, Va.
- The Panthers scored the first goal of the match in the opening minute, with senior Javi Perez sending in a penalty kick following a Virginia Tech foul in the box. But, Pitt was unable to continue its offensive success following the early goal, and ultimately fell to the Hokies by a score of 3-1.
- Perez led the team with five shots on the night, followed by redshirt senior Robby Dambrot and sophomore Edward Kizza with two shots each. Sophomore Jose Luis Sena Arbona and freshmen Rodrigo Almeida and Jackson Walti each added one shot apiece in the match.
SURVEYING THE STATS
- Seven different Panthers have scored a goal so far this season in Dambrot, Kizza, Perez, Sena Arbona, Walti, sophomore Marcony Pimentel and redshirt freshman Fiorre Mane.
- Kizza leads the team with 11 goals, followed by Perez with three and Pimentel with two. Dambrot, Mane, Sena Arbona and Walti have each netted one goal apiece.
- Pitt has also seen 10 players record assists on the season.
- Sophomore Alexander Dexter leads the squad with three assists, followed by Dambrot, Perez, Pimentel and Sena Arbona with two. Walti, senior Tom Moxham and freshmen Nyk Sessock, Alec Townsend and Chandler Vaughn have all added one helper each.
SIZING UP THE 2018 SLATE
- Pitt faces some tough competition in the 2018 season, with a schedule that includes 12 NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago.
- In 13 matches, the Panthers have faced six ranked opponents this season in then-ranked No. 25 Colgate, No. 4 Akron, No. 5 North Carolina, No. 6 Louisville, No. 12 NC State and No. 11 Virginia.
- Of Pitt's remaining four matches, two teams are currently ranked in the top 25 of the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
KIZZA COMMANDING ATTENTION
- Coming off a freshman campaign in which he scored four goals, Kizza has already notched 11 goals through 13 games this season.
- Kizza is currently tied for 10th place in program history with Joe Luxbacher (1971) for single-season goals. No Pitt player had cracked the top-10 in single-season goals since 1977.
- The Kampala, Uganda, native currently leads the team in shots (34), shots on goal (22), points (22) and goals (11).
- As of Oct. 11, the sophomore ranks fifth in the nation and first in the ACC in total goals (11), eighth in the nation and first in the ACC in shot accuracy (.688) and 10th in the nation and third in the ACC in total points (22).
- Kizza netted three goals in Pitt's second match of the season against Delaware Monday, Aug. 27, making him just the 20th player in program history to record a hat trick.
- The sophomore's goal in the opening minutes of the contest was also the quickest goal to start a game in school history, coming just 1:40 into the match and besting the previous record of 1:58 set in 2006.
- Kizza scored both of Pitt's goals in a thrilling 2-1 double overtime win against Clemson Friday, Oct. 5 at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The sophomore scored his first goal in the 10th minute of the match before closing the game with a score from the middle of the box in the 102nd minute.
- Kizza recorded his second hat trick of the season against Cleveland State Monday, Oct. 8 at Ambrose Urbanic Field, netting two goals in the first half and one in the second.
THE SERIES – TEMPLE
- The Panthers and Owls have met 13 times in program history, with Temple holding a 9-3-1 all-time series edge over Pitt.
- Most recently, Temple took a 2-1 victory against the Panthers Friday, Sept. 2, 2016 in Philadelphia, Pa.
- Pitt's last win against the Owls came in 1971 when the squad earned a 2-1 victory over Temple in Pittsburgh, Pa.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
- Temple enters Monday's match with a 4-6-3 [1-2-1 American] record, most recently suffering a 3-2 overtime loss to USF Friday, Oct. 12 in Tampa, Fla.
- The Owls are led by head coach Brian Rowland, who is in his first season with the program. Rowland joined the Temple staff following an eight year stint at Maryland, serving as the associate head coach in his final three seasons with the Terps.
- Through 13 games, junior Lukas Fernandes leads the team with four goals, followed by sophomore Justin Hahn and freshman Jalen Campbell with two scores apiece. Four other players have also added one goal each for the Owls.
- In goal, junior Simon Lefebvre has started 11 matches for Temple, recording two shutouts while collecting 36 saves and allowing 12 goals.
