Kizza Nets 12th Goal of Season, Continues to Move Up in Pitt Record Book

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh men's soccer team earned a 3-2 victory over Temple Monday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field.

The win moves Pitt up to 7-7-0 [2-4-0 ACC] on the season, with five of its losses coming at the hands of ranked opponents. The loss drops Temple to 4-7-3 [1-2-1 American] on the year.

The Panthers saw goals from three different players in senior Javi Perez and sophomores Alexander Dexter and Edward Kizza, with Kizza adding his 12^th score of the season. The Kampala, Uganda, native is now tied for sixth in program history for single-season goals, while ranking top-10 in the nation.

"I think we saw about five minutes tonight where we really strung some passes together with great movement up high, we had some great possession and attacking motions and we also had some very good defensive action," said head coach Jay Vidovich. "But for the most part, it was hit or miss out there, so it is something that we have to find. Part of it is that we are in a tight situation and we need a buffer and a little bit of cushion and confidence, but that is not going to come with the opponents we have, so we are going to have to learn on the fly."

Perez put Pitt on the board first, scoring his third penalty kick goal of the season in the 27^th minute. Temple had some quality opportunities following the goal, but would go into the break scoreless. Following the first 45 minutes of action, the Owls held a 6-4 advantage in shots and 8-2 advantage in corners.

Temple opened up the second half of play with a quick goal, finding the back of the net in the 50^th minute to even the match at one apiece. Dexter then put the Panthers back on top in the 63^rd minute, with Perez finding him in the left side of the box for the easy score. Less than five minutes later, Kizza collected his 12^th goal of the season following a feed from Dexter. Temple would add a goal in the 80^th minute, making it 3-2, but was unable to even the score before time expired.

Senior Robby Dambrot led the team with three shots, followed by Kizza and Perez with two each. Dexter, seniors Joshua Gaspari and Tom Moxham and freshman Jackson Walti also contributed one shot apiece.

In goal, freshman keeper Alexander Steinbach recorded four saves while allowing two goals in 90 minutes of action.

Up next, the Panthers will travel to Durham, N.C., to face No. 17 Duke Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.
