Pitt Set for Opening Home Meet with George Washington

PITTSBURGH—The Pitt swimming & diving programs will host a dual meet for the first time in 2018-19 when the Panthers welcome George Washington of the Atlantic 10 Conference to Trees Pool for a nonconference matchup this Saturday.
Diving events will begin at 9:30 a.m. with swimming starting at 11 a.m. Admission is free to all fans. The meet will also be live streamed on ACC Network Extra via ESPN3.
After opening the campaign with an ACC tri-meet against Florida State and Georgia Tech last Saturday, third-year Pitt head coach John Hargis is looking forward to seeing his team perform again—this time in front of the home crowd.
"We're happy to have another opportunity to race and challenge ourselves so quickly," Hargis said. "Coming back home to our pool—with lots of parents and alumni in attendance—should make for an exciting setting that will help continue our progression as a team. We have a lot of respect for George Washington and their program, and our athletes are excited about competing at home for the first time this season."
Pitt diving coach Katie Hazelton is anticipating some strong performances from her student-athletes as well as the Panthers compete indoors for the first time of the 2018-19 slate after diving in the elements at Florida State last weekend.
"It will be very nice for the divers to have a big home crowd behind them," Hazelton said. "We'll bring up the difficulty of the dives, so fans will get to see some of the dives that we'll do in the championship season in the spring. We'll be diving on the boards we practice on every day, so hopefully the athletes are comfortable and perform well. It should be an exciting meet."
The Panthers will look to continue their run of success in dual meets at Trees Pool. The Pitt women won their final 10 home matchups at home last season, while the Pitt men finished the 2017-18 campaign with a stretch of five consecutive victories.
