How I Spent my Summer – Gabi Rezende, Jr., Women’s Tennis

I am majoring in Human Resources Management and minoring in Economics. I am a junior on the Pitt Women's Tennis Team.
2) This summer, what organization/department are you working for? What is your official title?
I am currently working as an intern Human Resources analyst at Kraft Heinz.
3) What are some of your day-to-day responsibilities?
I am interning as an HR analyst am also part of Kraft Heinz Global Compensation team. This department is responsible for analyzing all job positions and employees of KH in all countries where they have offices, as well as developing strategic plans for the improvement and growth of the company at a global level.
I assist them in operational functions, such as the elaboration of Excel spreadsheets and management of projects, data analysis, and meeting participation.
4) How do you think being a Pitt student-athlete has prepared you for your current role?
Being a student-athlete at Pitt means that you have lots of developmental opportunities given to you in your college years. I am very happy to say that I have had wonderful opportunities that have helped me to acquire all the knowledge and experience that I have today. Life Skills programs such as Panther Leadership Academy, Voices, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Professional Clothing Drive, and the mentoring program have had a strong impact on my growth. Also, I received great guidance on how to write a very professional resume and cover letter as well as how to be well prepared for my interview. In addition, being a student-athlete has taught me skills such as organization, teamwork, discipline, determination, ambition, and working under pressure.
5) What are some of your career goals following Pitt?
After graduating I would like to continue acquiring knowledge and experience in my professional area through MBA courses and work, in the U.S. or internationally.
6) What skills learned this summer will you use to impact your athletic career?
I am constantly working with the compensation team so that really helped me to improve my communication, conflict management, and interpersonal skills. I have learned that when you have strong vision and values, there's a tremendous impact on people, increasing their performance and making them better off. I have also learned how to face and overcome obstacles in unfamiliar scenarios and work under pressure.
