LOUSIVILLE, Ky. - Pitt softball player Kaitlin Manuel garnered National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region honors as announced by the NFCA Thursday morning. The recent graduate was a second-team selection in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
This is the first all-region selection for Manuel, who played a key part both on the field and at the plate for the Panthers this year.
As Pitt's starting first baseman, Manuel recorded nearly a perfect fielding percentage (.993) after tallying 401 putouts and 11 assists, while committing just three errors all season. The San Diego, Calif., native leaves the Panthers as the career leader in putouts (1,529), chances (1,569) and fielding percentage (.995).
On offense, she finished with a .273 average after recording 39 hits in 143 at-bats, including six doubles, one triple and two home runs. Manuel rounded out the season with 25 RBIs and 19 runs scored.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2017 NFCA Division I All-American squads.
