PANTHERS TO WATCH
Pepsi Florida Relays (Thursday-Saturday):
The majority of the Panthers will be competing at the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla. Spotlight participants for Pitt will be two-time All-American Desmond Palmer in the 400m hurdles and school-record holder Andin Fosam in the hammer throw.
Stanford Invitational (Friday-Saturday):
Select members of the Panthers' distance crew will compete at the 42nd annual Stanford Invitational. Sophomore Nate Sloan and junior Beth Shenck will represent Pitt, respectively, in the men's and women's 800m run. In the 1500m will be a trio of Panthers: Amy Kelly, Miranda Salvo and Joslin Sellers. Junior Kelly Hayes, the school record holder in the 3000m steeplechase, will compete in her premier event. Sophomore Gillian Schriever will be Pitt's lone entry in the 10,000m run.
San Francisco State Distance Carnival (Friday-Saturday):
A larger portion of Pitt's distance team will compete in San Francisco.
On the men's side, Sloan will run the 800m and 1500m with Drew Glick and Billy Caldwell. Five Panthers will run in the 5000m, including Nick Wolk, Matt McGoey, Aaron Lauer, Sebastian Curtin and Jackson Morton. Alex Archer and Ryan Hughes will represent Pitt in the 10,000m run.
For the women, Makenzie Zeh, Anja Weiler and Sam Shields will be the Panthers' entries in the 1500m. Ariel Pastore-Sebring will run the 5000m and Madison Brannon will take on the 10,000m. Caroline DeFrank, Natalie Hilton and Sarah Kochinsky will run for Pitt in the 3000m steeplechase.
FOSAM CRACKS NATION'S TOP 10
With a school-record hammer throw of 61.67m at the CMU Invitational, junior Andin Fosam ranked 10th among the nation's top performances as of Wednesday, March 29. The toss shattered her previous personal record of 57.38m, set April 15, 2016, at the Louisville Invitational.
LAST TIME OUT
Pitt picked up stadium records in four events, as well as a school record in the hammer throw, at the CMU Invitational at Gesling Stadium, March 24-25.
Junior Andin Fosam threw for a personal record in the hammer throw with a mark of 61.67m. Her toss was good enough to eclipse the previous school record of 58.87m, which had stood since 2005. In addition to the personal and school records, Fosam also broke her own Gesling Stadium record of 51.50m, set last year. She was named the First National Bank Female Athlete of the Week for her performance, announced Tuesday
Freshman sprinter Jabari Michael-Khensu posted a Gesling Stadium record in the 200m with a time of 21.52 in his second collegiate meet.
Two relay teams picked up stadium records: the women's 4x400m squad of Jordan Bourgeois, Laila Ismail, Quadaisha Newkirk and Danielle Leaks posted a time of 3:49.52, and the men's 4x100m team of Michael-Khensu, Jamaree Murray, Ken Brosier and Chris Spadaro clocked in at 41.52.
Although the Panthers posted top marks in all but one event, the meet was scored only for Division III schools, so there were no official placements for Pitt.
UP NEXT
Pitt will compete at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla. (April 7-8) and the George Mason Spring Invitational in Fairfax, Va. (April 8).
