WASHINGTON, DC - The University of Pittsburgh women's gymnastics team earned a season-best score of 194.725 Friday evening at George Washington, placing fifth in a five-team meet in the nation's capital.
Pitt bested William and Mary (192.625) but trailed first-place Iowa (196.400), second-place George Washington (195.850) and third-place Maryland (194.775).
VAULT
The Panthers got things started on vault, earning a team score of 48.375. Tracey Pearson led the way with a 9.850 to place second, followed by Meagan Oscar's 11th-place mark of 9.725. Chari Spivey and Brittany West took 22nd with scores of 9.625.
BARS
Pitt claimed a team score of 48.950 on bars, led by Taylor Laymon's career-best score of 9.900, which earned the junior a tie for first place. Lucy Brett would post a score of 9.875 to place fifth, followed by Dani Hall and Hallie Peele, who tied for 17th place with scores of 9.750.
BEAM
The Panthers earned a team score of 48.550 on beam, as Brett placed 10th with a score of 9.775. Krista Collins would earn a score of 9.750 to place 12th, while Kelly Burak earned 14th place with a mark of 9.725.
FLOOR
The Panthers concluded the evening on floor, earning a team score of 48.850. Both Hall and Laymon posted scores of 9.800 to place 10th. Spivey and Pearson would tie for 15th with marks of 9.775, while Alecia Petrikis and Erika Reichert would tie for 22nd with scores of 9.700.
UP NEXT
The Panthers head to rival Penn State for a dual with the NIttany Lions on Feb. 25 before returning home for a four-team meet with West Virginia, Michigan State and Towson on March 3.
