PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh wrestling team is set for a pair of weekend duals, hosting Clarion Saturday, Dec. 16 in the home opener before traveling to Bucknell Sunday, Dec. 17 to take on the Bison.
The Panthers' home opener versus the Golden Eagles is slated to begin at 3 p.m. in the Fitzgerald Field House. Sunday's dual with Bucknell is set to begin at 2 p.m. at Sojka Pavilion in Lewisburg, Pa.
HOW TO FOLLOW
- Saturday's home opener will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and may be viewed on WatchESPN/WatchESPN app.
- Sunday's road dual will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network.
- Live stats for both duals will be provided through TrackWrestling.

THE SERIES
- Pitt and Clarion clash for the 47th time in program history Saturday.
- The Panthers lead the all-time series 23-21-2 and last met in 2015 which resulted in a 19-18 loss for Pitt.
- The Panthers and Bison meet for just the third time Sunday, as Pitt leads all meetings, 2-0, and haven't met since the 2014 season.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Panthers made the trip to Morgantown, W.Va., Saturday, Dec. 9 to take on the Moutaineers in the Backyard Brawl.
- West Virginia took down Pitt, 24-10, in the 63rd meeting.
- 133-pounder Dom Forys, 141-pounder Nick Zanetta and heavyweight Ryan Solomon were the lone Panthers to record wins on the day.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
- Clarion visits Pittsburgh for the first time since the 2015 season. In their last trip, the Golden Eagles were shutout, 51-0, as seven Panthers pinned their opponents.
- Saturday will be just the second dual of the year as Clarion opened the season with a 22-14 loss to Utah Valley.
- Redshirt junior Brock Zacherl, Clarion's 141-pounder, is the lone Golden Eagle ranked by InterMat on the squad, checking in at No. 9 this week. The two-time NCAA qualifier is 13-0 on the year.
- Redshirt junior Jake Gromacki at 125 pounds is a familiar face to the Panthers as Gromacki was a member of the Pitt squad for two seasons (2014-16).
SCOUTING THE BISON
- Bucknell enters Sunday's dual 0-4 on the year after already facing three top 25 opponents in No. 1 Penn State (L, 36-6), No. 10 Lehigh (L, 36-6) and No. 25 Edinboro (L, 30-10).
- The Bison boast one wrestler ranked by InterMat in senior Tyler Smith at 141 pounds who is 6-2 on the season. A native of nearby Export, Pa., Smith is a three-time NCAA qualifier.
PANTHERS IN THE POLLS
- After five-straight weeks in the USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll, Pitt has dropped out of the top 25 this week.
- Individually, four Panthers are ranked by InterMat this week in No. 11 Dom Forys at 133 pounds, No. 15 Ryan Solomon at 285 pounds, No. 16 Nick Zanetta at 141 pounds and No. 20 Taleb Rahmani at 157 pounds.
- Although not ranked by InterMat, redshirt freshman Jake Wentzel is ranked No. 17 by FloWrestling.
LOOKING AHEAD
- The Panthers resume action in 2018 as they host three duals in the month of January starting with North Dakota State Friday, Jan. 5.
