McConnell-Serio Signs Three Guards
PITTSBURGH – Pitt women's basketball head coach Suzie McConnell-Serio announced the addition of three guards to her Class of 2022 Tuesday.
New Jersey native Jahsyni Knight, Georgian recruit Tehya Lyons and international prospect Ismini Prapa each signed National Letters of Intent to join the Panthers next season.
Knight, a 5-foot-8 guard, led Rutgers Preparatory to two consecutive NJSIAA State Championships, two Non-Public B Sectional titles and three consecutive Somerset County Championships. The Perth Amboy, N.J., native was ranked 84th overall by ESPN and 78th overall by Bluestar Basketball. She was named a Smith & Smith Preseason All-America honorable mention, a two-time Courier News All-Area first team member and a Non-Public B All-State honoree.
"Jahsyni is a proven winner," McConnell-Serio said. "She comes from one of the top programs in the country. She has shown at every level her ability to win championships. She's a perfect fit for our system. Her leadership and skill set will make an immediate impact on our program."
Lyons is a three-star recruit according to ESPN scouting profiles, ranked No. 28 at the guard position. The Norcross, Ga., native is a three-time regional champion, state runner-up and scholar-athlete award recipient. Other accolades for the 5-foot-7 point guard include being named to the GA Region 7A Team of the Year, the GA Region 7A first team, the Gwinnett All-County Tip-Off Club Team, the Atlanta Journal Constitution All-State Region 7A second team and the 2017 Georgia Athletic Coaches Association All-Star Team (North). She maintains a 3.3 GPA at Norcross High School and intends to major in physical therapy.
"Tehya brings speed and athleticism to our team," McConnell-Serio said. "She is a versatile scorer and talented playmaker. Her quickness allows her to change game tempo offensively and defensively."
Prapa, a 5-foot-7 point guard, hails from Athens, Greece, and represented her country on the U16 National Team in 2016. In the same year, she led the American Community School of Athens (ACS) to the Greek League Championship and was named the squad's Most Valuable Player. Most recently, her team placed third in the Greek League Tournament and she was placed on the All-Tournament team.
"Ismini brings an experienced style of play," McConnell-Serio said. "She's an exceptional scorer and play maker. Her ability to pass and create for her teammates is college-ready."
