Panthers Face Seventh Ranked Opponent in 2017

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh men's soccer team is set to faced its seventh ranked opponent this year as the Panthers travel to No. 7 Notre Dame Friday, Oct. 13.
The ACC match-up is slated to begin at 7 p.m. at Alumni Stadium in South Bend, Ind.
Pitt heads to South Bend with an overall record of 7-6-0 with a 1-4-0 mark against conference opponents. The Fighting Irish are 9-2-1 overall while posting a 3-1-1 record against ACC foes.

- The Panthers and Fighting Irish clash for the 22nd time in program history Friday.
- Notre Dame leads the all-time series 15-3-3 and have claimed the last 14 meetings.

LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt defeated long-time rival Penn State Tuesday, Oct. 10 at Ambrose Urbanic Field, 3-2, in overtime.
- The Panthers struck first in the 30th minute as freshman Marcony Pimentel found the back of the net for the first time in his career.
- Penn State then found the equalizer in the 38th minute to tie the match entering halftime.
- Pitt jumped back out front in the 76th minute thanks to freshman Alexander Dexter who netted his fourth goal this season.
- The Nittany Lions tied the game yet again in the 90th minute to send it into overtime.
- Junior Javi Perez sent in the golden goal in the 99th minute, lifting the Panthers to victory.
- The win snapped Penn State's nine-game win-streak in the series. Pitt's last win over the Nittany Lions came in 1978 in which the Panthers captured a 2-0 victory in Pittsburgh.
- The win is the seventh of the season for Pitt, marking the first time since 2008 that the Panthers have reached the seven-win mark.
SCOUTING THE IRISH
- Notre Dame enters Friday's contest on a three-game win streak. The team's last loss came against No. 1 Indiana, Sept. 26.
- The Irish are currently second in the ACC Coastal Division behind No. 4 North Carolina and rank seventh in the United Soccer Coaches poll. Notre Dame was previously ranked ninth.
- The Fighting Irish are one of the six ACC teams in the top seven of the RPI this week checking in at No. 5.
- Notre Dame is led by senior forward and 2016 ACC Offensive Player of the Year Jon Gallagher with 22 points (10 goals, two assists) on the year. His 22 points rank him tied for fifth in the nation.
- The Fighting Irish finished the 2016 season 12-7-2 that included a 3-3-2 record in the ACC.

- Senior Bryce Cregan was named ACC Defender of the Week Monday, Oct. 2.
- Cregan's weekly recognition is the first in program history since joining the ACC in 2013.
- The Dallastown, Pa., native played a crucial role in Pitt's notable wins over West Virginia (9/26) and No. 21 Syracuse (9/29).
LOOKING AHEAD
- Pitt will make its final road trip of the regular season Friday, Oct. 20, making the trip to Charlottesville, Va., to take on No. 10 Virginia at 7 p.m.
- The Panthers return home to host Akron (Oct. 24) and Virginia Tech (Oct. 27) for their final regular season games.
