PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh athletic department has launched a robust Panther Club donor acquisition campaign in an effort to eclipse the department record with over 11,000 contributors. The campaign began Aug. 25 with outreach to current Pitt staff members and will reach more than 220,000 constituents over the next three weeks.
"We are extremely excited about this Panther Club campaign," said Pitt Athletic Director Scott Barnes. "We have developed a great vision for the future of this athletic department. The continued support from, and the growth of, the Panther Club will be key components to reaching those heights. The University of Pittsburgh receives terrific support from its fans, alumni, staff and donors and we continue to explore ways to engage and energize each of these groups."
The campaign is built around a high-impact video featuring current student-athletes and coaches, former Panther great Dan Marino and Chancellor Patrick Gallagher as well as email messages from Barnes, Senior Vice Chancellor Kathy Humphrey, men's basketball head coach Kevin Stallings, women's basketball head coach Suzie McConnell-Serio and football coach Pat Narduzzi highlighting the importance of the Panther Club and its members to the growth and development of Pitt Athletics.
The Panther Club donor acquisition campaign is yet another step forward in the execution of initiatives outlined in "Inspire Pride. Build Champions. The Strategic Plan for Pitt Athletics." The comprehensive campaign will strengthen Pitt's resource-base and facilitate championship-level success across the entire athletic department. The pipeline built by identifying and cultivating new prospects as well as current donors will enable the department to meet the scholarship needs and provide additional support for over 475 student-athletes who will don the Pitt jersey in 2016-17.
Serving as the official fundraising unit for Pitt Athletics, the Panther Club is committed to providing Pitt student-athletes with the opportunity to succeed in the classroom, in competition and in their personal lives. This commitment begins with the great support of more than 8,000 Panther Club members. Each year, gifts received from these generous donors help provide scholarship opportunities for Pitt's more than 475 student-athletes, giving them the opportunity to pursue an outstanding education and compete athletically at the highest level.
