Softball Announces Fall Competition Schedule

PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh softball team is set to participate in four exhibition series this fall to help prepare for the upcoming 2017 season. The Panthers will host three of their four doubleheaders at Vartabedian Field in the Petersen Sports Complex.
Pitt will face two local teams in Slippery Rock and Saint Francis (PA), along with West Virginia Wesleyan, Akron and Ohio Dominican.
The Panthers will begin their season at home on Sunday, Sept. 11 with a doubleheader against the Rock beginning at 11 a.m.
The following Sunday, Sept. 18, Pitt will welcome the Red Flash to Vartabedian Field with the first game of the doubleheader slated to begin at 1 p.m.
The Panthers lone road trip of the fall will come on Sunday, Sept. 25 when they head to Akron to face Ohio Dominican at 3 p.m. prior to taking on the Zips at 5 p.m.
Pitt will round out its fall season on Sunday, Oct. 2 back at home against West Virginia Wesleyan. The two-game series will begin at noon.
The Panthers concluded the 2016 regular season with a 31-21 overall record and an 8-14 mark in ACC play. The season marked the second consecutive year where Pitt has won 30-plus games and advanced to the ACC Tournament.
Three members of the squad were named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Mid-Atlantic All-Region selections. Recent graduate Maggie Sevilla and rising junior Giorgiana Zeremenko were second-team honorees, while rising junior McKayla Taylor was a third-team selection.
The Panthers will return six starters in 2017.
