What is the greatest advantage of going to college locally?
Some of the main advantages of going to college locally are being close to family and friends and less financial stress. Staying close also allows you to be around home if there are any family issues and gives you more time to focus on activities rather than traveling back and forth. A lot of kids say they want to go far away from home, but staying local is the perfect distance because you can live on your own and have all the freedom of being far away, but if you need a home cooked meal or want to see friends from high school you're only a short drive or long bike ride away.
What made you choose Pitt? What was the major selling point?
One of the main reasons I chose Pitt was because of the coaching staff. I really felt at home when I met with the coaches. When I walked out of dinner, I knew it was the place for me. They told me what it would take to be a Division I wrestler and what I could get out of it. Realistically it is hard to see all of the things Pitt has to offer until you get here. Being close to home and finances are also main reasons. Another was the Life Skills department and academics. Pitt is a great University that opens students up to awesome opportunities and allows them to accomplish any goal they may set.
What benefit does Pitt have being in the city and an urban campus?
Many of the benefits Pitt has is being able to have a diverse group of students. There are many attractions Pitt and the city has that people come from all over to see. We are the City of Champions and downtown is only a 15 minute bike ride from the city! Transportation is easy
Would you consider yourself a yinzer? If so, what is the most popular "Pittsburghese" word in your vocabulary?
I wouldn't totally consider myself a full blown yinzer, but I have lived here my whole life so I might as well embrace it. There are many people that call me out for using phrases and vocabulary only yinzers tend to use.
What is your favorite thing about the city of Pittsburgh?
One of my favorite memories of the city was going to a Pitt wrestling match my senior year of high school. Before that, my closest friends and I traveled all around Pittsburgh and got a lot of great food. It was before I knew anything about Oakland so it was exciting to picture myself going there.
What is your favorite thing to do in Pittsburgh?
Ride bicycles around the city.
What similarities does the Pitt wrestling program have to Pittsburgh as a city?
We like to work hard and win. We are also proud to have a great support system and fan base.
What is your favorite food specific to Pittsburgh?
Well there is no food that I don't like, so any Pittsburgh specific food is my favorite. No doubt we have some of the best french fries, those have a special place in my heart. Pittsburgh's cheesesteak did just get ranked #1 in Pennsylvania so that might be a new favorite.
Who is your favorite Pittsburgh athlete of all time?
Franco Harris because he is a legend. He made one of the biggest plays in football history and I met him in person at my favorite restaurant. His statue is in the Pittsburgh airport and I see it every time we travel somewhere for competition.
Who is the biggest yinzer on the team?
Tyler Wilps because he uses the word yinz in his vocabluary more than anyone I know.
If you could go to any game (Pirates/Pens/Steelers), which would you choose?
Pirates because you can get cheap tickets, go with a big group of friends, and the view from the stadium will never get old. Raise it!
What advice do you give to teammates that aren't local to Pittsburgh and how does having such a large group of local kids help them adjust to the move?
Tell them that they are here for a reason and to trust the plan. It helps them a lot because the local group reaches out to them and makes them feel at home. Taking them out to eat or learn about the city, just letting them know that we have their back on and off the mat.
What is your vision for Pitt wrestling as a team and individual? What do you hope to accomplish?
My vision for Pitt wrestling as a team is to win ACCs and place top four at the NCAA tournament, while having several people All-American alongside one another. My individual goals are to become an All-American and national champion!
What is your favorite hobby outside of wrestling?
Playing piano and guitar, hanging out with friends and meeting new people.
What is your favorite thing about your team?
We can mess around and get under each other's skin but still have fun, work hard and accomplish our goals.
What are you most excited for about the upcoming season?
Getting better and pushing myself to new limits.
Each Wednesday throughout the summer, PittsburghPanthers.com will highlight nine former Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) wrestlers that are now current Pitt student-athletes or are on the coaching staff.

If you had to give your coaches a TV/movie character, who would they be?
Our assistant head coach Matt Kocher would be Kramer from Seinfield. He is friendly and caring, but a big goofball at the same time.
