GREENSBORO, N.C. – Forward Brenna Wise has been named to the eight-member ACC All-Freshman Team, as voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Wise becomes the first Pitt player to garner ACC All-Freshman Team honors since the Panthers joined the league three years ago.
The Pittsburgh native had a standout rookie year, averaging 10.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. She led all ACC freshmen in rebounding the entire season and currently ranks seventh overall in the entire league.
“We are so proud of Brenna’s accomplishments this season,” head coach Suzie McConnell-Serio said. “She has impacted our team on and off the court, and her hard work and dedication have earned her this recognition. This is an elite group of players honored by the ACC and we couldn’t be happier to have Brenna represent the University of Pittsburgh among them.”
Wise led the Panthers with 17 double figure scoring games and six double-doubles this year. She also had seven double figure rebounding performances, which included a career-high 16 boards on two separate occasions (vs. Duquesne, vs. NC State). Her career-high of 17 points came against Duke.
Wise stepped her game up even more during league play and she led the team in both scoring (10.7) and rebounding (7.8) against ACC opponents. Ten of her 17 double figure scoring games came in conference action.
Led by Wise, the Panthers take on North Carolina Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the opening game of the ACC Tournament. In the first meeting between the two, Pitt defeated UNC 76-60 in Chapel Hill. Wise had 10 points and 13 rebounds in that contest.
