PITTSBURGH – Playing its final regular season game, the University of Pittsburgh women’s basketball team travels to No. 10 Louisville on Sunday afternoon. The nationally televised broadcast will tip at 12:30 p.m. on RSN and can be seen locally in Pittsburgh on ROOT SPORTS.
The Panthers (12-16, 4-11 ACC) will look to win their fifth straight ACC road game when they visit the Cardinals (23-6, 14-1 ACC), who have won five in a row and 20 of their last 21 games.
ACC TOURNAMENT:
The Panthers will either be the 11, 12 or 13 seed at next week’s ACC Tournament. Pitt currently sits in 11th place because they own the tie-breaker with North Carolina and Virginia Tech who are also both 4-11 in the league. If Pitt holds onto the 11-seed, the Panthers will play Boston College in the opening round of the tournament. If they fall to 12 or 13, they will play either UNC or VT.
CAREY LEADING THE ACC:
Sophomore Stasha Carey is leading the ACC in rebounds per game during league action at 8.4. Her overall average of 6.9 ranks her 15th, while she also ranks fourth in blocks (1.4) and 12th in steals (1.8). A candidate for all-conference the all-defensive team, Carey is the only player in the ACC to rank in the top-15 in both blocks and steals per game.
FOUR STRAIGHT FOR BUGG:
Point guard Aysia Bugg has scored in double-figures each of her last four games and is averaging 15.0 ppg during that stretch. Included in that was her first ever double-double at UNC where she had 15 points and a career-high tying 10 assists. Bugg also paces the team overall with 107 assists (3.8/game).
WISE CONTENDS FOR ROOKIE OF THE YEAR:
Freshman Brenna Wise will make one final push toward all-conference accolades vs. Louisville and at the ACC Tournament. Wise has led all ACC freshmen in rebounding the entire season and currently ranks eighth overall in the league at 7.4 per game. She is the team’s leading scorer at 10.1 ppg and also has a team-best 17 double-figure scoring games.
SCOUTING LOUISVILLE:
The Cardinals have secured the No. 2 seed in next week’s ACC Tournament. After starting the season at 1-4, Louisville has since gone 22-2 and is currently the 10th-ranked team in the nation. Myisha Hines-Allen is the reigning ACC Player of the Week after averaging 21.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks three wins. Hines-Allen had 29 against the Panthers back on February 11th in Pittsburgh.
