Markovic, Sett Claim First National Bank Weekly Honors

PITTSBURGH - University of Pittsburgh student-athletes Nika Markovic and Aaron Sett were named First National Bank Athletes of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Markovic, a freshman from Braslovce, Slovenia, was a major factor in the volleyball team's first NCAA Tournament second round appearance since 2003. She posted double-doubles against both No. 23 Dayton in the first round, Friday, and No. 13 Penn State in the second, Saturday. Against the Flyers, she had team highs of 16 kills and 14 digs, and recorded 14 kills and 12 digs against PSU. With the loss to No. 13 Penn State, the volleyball team officially ended its 2016 campaign.
Sett, a sophomore from Lakewood, Colo., swam for a personal record in the men's freestyle mile at AT&T Winter Nationals in Atlanta, Ga., Saturday. He placed 15th with a time of 15:23.23.
The Panthers' swimming team will take part in the annual Pitt Christmas Meet Dec. 15-18 at Trees Pool before the squad fully returns to action after the New Year with a Backyard Brawl retro dual against West Virginia on Jan. 7 at Trees Pool at 10 a.m. on ACC Network Extra and via the WatchESPN app.
