Pitt Head Coach Suzie McConnell-Serio
On if Youngstown’s early lead lit a fire for the team:
“We prepared for what they came out and did right off the bat, but they came out aggressive and hit two big threes to start the game. We just needed to settle into the game and be ready to defend the three-point line, which is something we talked about going into this game. We were very aware that they had great three-point shooters, but I think the adjustments we made defensively, our players responded. We were able to create our offense from our defense.”
On playing in front of a large crowd:
“We try to prepare for it, but really can’t. We had crowd noise playing during our practice yesterday by trying to get ready for it, but hearing it for 40 minutes is a little different. I thought our players handled it well. It's still early in the season so, one thing we talked about going in was communication among the team. Anything we are calling, making sure we are echoing it on the floor so everyone is on the same page and we know what we are doing offensively and defensively. So there had to be a lot of communication among the players in order to overcome the noise, but it was a great crowd. We loved having the students and are very appreciative that the faculty and administration of these schools allowed them to come support us. It was a great day.”
On Kauai Bradley’s performance:
“You know, Kauai [Bradley] is someone who is playing very well at both ends of the floor right now. She is a play maker and she is probably the one player on our team who has been consistent, both at shooting the ball at the perimeter at three, getting to the rim to make her own shot and offensive rebound. She has been someone who has been active at both ends of the floor and it’s very difficult to keep her off the floor.”
On starting Whitney and Bugg together:
“Jasmine [Whitney] is a very good point guard. Last game, she came out and really set the tone at both ends of the floor. She was 5-for-5 from three. That was a bonus for us, because Jasmine is usually the play maker, the one scoring, getting to the rim and finding people. In transition, she has great vision on the floor. So, with her at the point and Aysia [Bugg] at the two, we play at a better pace.”
Pitt Forward Kauai Bradley
On her performance against Youngstown State:
“I think I did well. We continued to fight even though we had a couple turnovers. We kept the energy, intensity and continued to play defense. We pulled it out.”
On the team’s play first half versus second half:
“We kept the intensity up once we saw that we were letting them kind of get back into the game. That encouraged us a little bit more to go harder and harder so they wouldn’t come back as much.”
On making all of her three-pointers against Youngstown State:
“I would say it feels good, because I am helping my teammates and they are helping me get the ball. So it applies to both ends.”
Pitt Guard Aysia Bugg
On playing point guard:
“It is very helpful that Jasmine and I can help each other. When one of us is better one day and the other is better the next day, it makes us versatile. It helps that we both can switch off.”
On Pitt's overall performance against Youngstown State:
“We did really well in the first half. Coach mentioned that we can still learn a lot. We came out slow to say the least. The third quarter wasn’t so bad. The fourth quarter we came out a little bit dry and that kind of effected the lead. We picked it up and came out with the win. That is all that matters.”
On where she sees the team headed throughout the season:
“Up. We have a lot of great players. People are stepping up from last year. I’m very excited about our future.”
On the teammate that stood out today:
“Kauai [Bradley], she’s been pretty consistent. She made jumpers, and being another three-point threat for us. We have Alayna Gribble who is a great shooter. Having her [Bradley] being able to score, play defense, rebound, and be all around the place for us is good.”
