PITTSBURGH – Pitt junior starting pitcher T.J. Zeuch (Mason, Ohio/Mason) was ranked 22nd among those in the Cape Cod Baseball League’s upcoming 2016 professional draft class by D1Baseball.com.
Zeuch went 2-0 in four starts with the Cape’s Chatham Anglers, posting a 1.31 ERA with 17 strikeouts.
“T.J. has worked very hard and has developed into a fine pitcher,” said head coach Joe Jordano. “He has earned the opportunities that lie ahead of him. It will be an exciting year for T.J.”
In the piece, D1Baseball.com’s national prospect writer Frankie Piliere identified Zeuch as “one of the more intriguing emerging aces of the spring.” An experienced talent scout, Piliere noted Zeuch’s use of his height as creating a “fantastic downhill plane” and that he has the potential to improve with every start.
The recognition comes on the heels of a 2015 collegiate season in which Zeuch established himself as the Panthers’ clear staff ace, even outdueling 2014 ACC Co-Pitcher of the Year Nathan Kirby on March 7 to knock of No. 1 Virginia – the eventual NCAA Champion.
“He’s earned it. I think it’s a huge step in his career, wherever it takes him,” said pitching coach Jerry Oakes. “That’s why we wanted to put him in the Cape Cod League – to surround him with the best players in the country. I think he has a lot of confidence right now. He’s earned a Friday night spot, but he’s going to have to be more consistent to take it to the next level.”
