PITTSBURGH—University of Pittsburgh athletic director Scott Barnes announced today that head softball coach Holly Aprile has signed a new three-year contractual agreement through the 2018 season.
Pitt softball achieved unprecedented success in 2015 under Aprile's guidance. Among the Panthers' historic milestones:
- Pitt earned its first NCAA Tournament invitation in program history, advancing to the regional final.
- In the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Championship, the Panthers upset higher seeds Notre Dame and North Carolina to make the title game. It was Pitt's first conference tournament championship game appearance ever.
- Pitt finished with a 37-22 record, the winningest season in school history.
- Aprile and her staff were honored as the 2015 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
"Coach Aprile led our softball program to a remarkable season in 2015," Barnes said. "More importantly, she has her team poised for even greater success in the future. We are very excited about what our softball student-athletes can continue to achieve on the field and in the classroom under her guidance."
"I would like to thank Chancellor Pat Gallagher and Athletic Director Scott Barnes for the continued opportunity to lead the softball program at the University of Pittsburgh," Aprile said. "Coming off our best season in the history of the program, I am both excited and honored to continue to build on our progress and momentum. This commitment to our program will help us continue to attract high-caliber student-athletes and provide a platform for us to compete in the ACC and nationally."
The 2016 season will mark Aprile's eighth as head coach and 13th overall with the Panthers.
