PITTSBURGH -- Pitcher Marc Berube was selected today by the Oakland Athletics in the 28th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.
"I wasn't expecting anything," said Berube. "If it happens, it happens. That was my motto. It's something big, and I can't even believe it happened to me."
Berube is just the second Pitt player on record as having been taken by the Athletics, with the sole other being Brant Colamarino in 2002. He was also the first Quebec native taken in this year's draft.
The rising senior made 13 starts for the Panthers in 2015, tallying 65.1 innings of work. His 17 walks ranked tied for fifth lowest in the ACC among inning qualifiers.
His toughness was exemplified by his outing at Georgia Tech on May 9 in which he earned the win with a gritty 5.2 frames in the heat. He also recorded a win against the vaunted Wake Forest offense on April 12, allowing just two earned runs in 6.1 innings.
The draft concludes today, the last of three days of the event which began on Monday, June 8.
