PITTSBURGH -- University of Pittsburgh softball head coach Holly Aprile and her staff have announced the dates and times for 2015 Summer Camps. The camps will be held at Vartabedian Field, located in the Petersen Sports Complex at the University of Pittsburgh.
There will be three camps offered this summer including a general skills camp, advanced pitching and catching camp, and an all-skills camp.
General Skills Camp | June 15-16
The general skills camp will place June 15th-16th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This camp is designed for girls entering grades 5-8 and will help participants learn what it takes to be an offensive and defensive threat on the softball field.  The Pitt coaching staff and players will be on hand to instruct various drills and techniques for athletes of all levels, focusing on skills including the mechanics and fundamentals of hitting, short game and base running, defensive fundamentals, and fielding ground balls along with catching fly balls.
Advanced Pitching and Catching Camp | June 17
The camp will be held on June 17 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for girls entering grades 8-11. All aspects of pitching and catching will be covered in this camp, but will specifically focus on drills for pitchers to increase speed and balance in the pitching motion along with advanced movement pitches. Catchers will work on the fundamentals of catching, receiving and blocking, and plate coverage with various drills.
Summer Camp | July 13-14
The last camp offered will be a summer camp for players entering grades 9-12. Each player will be taken through various drills relating to their chosen position and necessary skills. Every position will be covered in depth including infield, outfield, pitching and catching. Participants will also work on their offensive skills such as the mechanics of hitting, short game, and base running.
The Pitt Softball summer camps are a great way for aspiring softball players to take their game to the next level, both offensively and defensively. Campers can expect a collection of drills focused on improving their overall skillset. All of these skills will be taught by the Pitt coaches and players.
