University of Pittsburgh Symphonic Band to Hold Spring Concert

PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh Symphonic Band will hold its annual Spring Concert on Sunday, April 12 at Bellefield Hall. The free concert will start at 2 p.m. and is open to the public. The conductors are Dr. Brad Townsend, Director of Bands and Matthew Alosi, Assistant Director of Bands.
The Symphonic Band is made of 66 of the finest wind and percussion players at the University of Pittsburgh. Membership is made up of students from across Pennsylvania, as well as Ohio, Illinois, Hawaii, Maryland, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. This year's concert will present works by John Phillip Sousa, Aaron Copland, Gustav Holst, Joseph Wilcox Jenkins, William Schumann, John Williams, Steven Bryant and Julie Giroux.
The Pitt Band is one of the greatest traditions that the University of Pittsburgh has to offer. As the largest and most visible student organization on campus, Pitt Band is dedicated to excellence in marching and musical performance, promoting spirit on and off campus, and providing a compelling experience for all of its members. As one of the elite college bands of the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Pitt Band program proves itself unforgettable for Pitt fans and Pitt Band members alike.
A reception will follow the event, hosted by the Pitt Band Alumni Council.
