*The University of Pittsburgh women’s basketball team advanced to 16-8 (6-5 ACC) after defeating Virginia Tech, 53-35 at the Petersen Events Center.
*Coach Suzie McConnell-Serio recorded her 150th career victory as a collegiate head coach.
*Virginia Tech’s 35 points were the fewest allowed by the Panthers this season.
*The last time an opponent scored 35 points or less was when Pitt defeated Mount St. Mary’s, 66-30, on Dec. 5, 2010.
*Pitt improved to 13-3 at home this season.
*It took Brianna Kiesel just 9:24 into the game to reach double-figure scoring. She finished the first half with 15 of the team’s 24 total points.
*The Panthers’ defense held VT scoreless from 6:46 to play in the first half until 18:03 on the clock in the second – a drought of 8:43.
*Pitt has led at the half in 15 of 24 contests, improving to 13-2 with an advantage at intermission.
*Kiesel recorded her 36th career 20-point game, her 12th this season. She finished with 21 points (4-7 3FG), six boards, four assists, and three steals.
*Monica Wignot’s five steals marked a new career best, contributing to the team’s 10 total on the day. It marked the 10th time the Panthers tallied double-digit steals this season.
