Panthers Break Into National Polls

MANHEIM, Pa. - The University of Pittsburgh wrestling team broke into the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll for the first time this season on Tuesday, landing at No. 20.
The Panthers had an impressive showing last weekend as they defeated former EWL-foe Edinboro and upset No. 15 Wisconsin, improving to 5-1 on the season.
Pitt defeated the Fighting Scots in its home opener Thursday night, 24-9. Seven Panthers recorded wins, including No. 19 Dom Forys (133) by way of pin and No. 9 Mikey Racciato (141).
Two days later, Pitt upset No. 15 Wisconsin at the Fitzgerald Field House, 25-9. The afternoon started with the 285 pounders and saw No. 19 Ryan Solomon pin Brock Horwath in 1:29. Pitt won the following three bouts, including a notable victory by Forys who defeated No. 4 Ryan Taylor, 10-6. At 174 pounds, freshman TeShan Campbell carried his momentum from the previous dual en route to a 13-5 major decision over No. 16 Rickey Robertson.
Pitt is now the fifth ACC team to enter the rankings this week, joining NC State (3), Virginia Tech (5), North Carolina (15) and Virginia (16).
