Pitt Has Second Consecutive Successful Weekend at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The University of Pittsburgh men's and women's track and field teams enjoyed a second consecutive successful weekend at Penn State as the Panthers took home four first place finishes and numerous personal bests at the Nittany Lion Challenge.
Freshman Alyssa Wise raced to a victory and a new personal best (7.60) in the 60 meter dash. Junior Hillary Boxheimer led the way with a PR (10:13.39) in a Panther-dominated 3000 meter run that saw Pitt place six of the top seven finishers. Andrew Wells took first in the Weight Throw (20.18m), topping a group of men's and women's throwers that combined for six personal bests.
SPRINTS:
MEN:
Ashad Johnson-Conley finished second (8.34) in the 60 meter hurdles, joined by Dustin Fuller who finished fourth (8.51) in his season debut this weekend.
In the 200 meter dash, Fuller (22.67) and Chris Spadaro (22.70) placed 11th and 12th, respectively, both setting new personal bests.
Three Panthers placed in the top seven finishers of the 400 meter dash. Former Pitt track standout Brycen Spratling took first in the event, followed by sophomore Brylan Slay with the top collegiate time of the day in the event and a PR (48.35). Christopher Tate finished just behind him in third with a PR of his own (48.52). Donnell Taylor (seventh) and Josh McDonald (13th) rounded out the top finishers for Pitt.
WOMEN:
Joining Alyssa Wise in the top standings of the 60 meter dash were Khyla Freeman and Khadeja Kearney. Freeman clocked in with a time of 7.86 to place third. Kearney placed eighth with a time of 7.98.
Kearney also fared well in the 60 meter hurdles, placing seventh (8.92).
Both Panthers running in the 200M registered PRs. Bryana Robinson finished eighth (25.30), and Khyla Freeman placed 16th (25.77).
Zoey Whittington just missed a PR in the 400M, finishing third overall with a 55.84. Caitlin Rolle finished 13th with a 1:05.93.
Paige Lumley set a new personal-best time of 1:37.82 in the 600M en route to a seventh place finish. Lydia Dennis finished 10th (1:40.34) in her first 600M outing.
LONG DISTANCE:
Dana DelleFemine made a strong debut in the 800 meter run, posting a sixth-place finish and a time of 2:15.08. Beth Shenk finished 10th (2:18.70) and Emily Schumacher took home 12th with a time of 2:19.13.
Billy Caldwell (4:20.36), Nate Sloan (4:20.81), and James Hare (4:25.98) all competed in the Mile for the first time this season.
The 3,000 meter run was a successful event for both the men's and women's teams. Michael Runco finished fifth with a personal-best (8:26.21) and Eric Stratman set a PR (8:42.49) in 11th. For the women following Hillary Boxheimer's win, Alexandra Cady (10:16.21) and Amy Kelly (10:21.41) both recorded PRs with second and third place finishes, respectively. Dee Dee Adams placed fourth (10:23.51) and Caroline DeFrank PR'd with a time of 10:32.12 in sixth. Paige Anderson rounded out the Pitt finishers in seventh (10:47.86).
The women's two Distance Medley Relay teams placed first and second with times of 12:18.49 and 12:24.93. The winning team was comprised of Melanie Vlasic, Dellefemine, Perry and Cayla Del Piano.
Melanie Vlasic (5:05.61), Ellen Crook (5:06.23), Nicole Leskowitz (5:27.66), Karli Buescher (5:18.26), and Audrey Burger (5:07.18) all posted new personal bests in the Mile.
FIELD:
Andrew Wells was victorious in the men's Weight Throw (66-02.50) for a second consecutive weekend. Chris Celona placed eighth (55-03.50), while Bruce Robinson (49-01.50) and James Toth (47-01.50) both hit PRs. Toth also set a personal best in Shot Put (43-09.00) with his 10th place finish.
For the women, Andin Fosom (56-10.00) and Haley Springman (56-09.25) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the weight toss with Fosom setting a new personal best. Kalene Anderson also marked a new personal-best distance with a 55-02.25, and Carlin Chruscicki beat her old best of 48-5.5 with a 51-11.75. Both Fosom and Anderson qualified for the ACC Championship Meet with their distance.
Notable jumpers included Lydia Dennis who placed fourth in Long Jump with 17-11.75 and sixth in the Triple Jump (38-00.25) and Paige Lumley who finished third in the Triple Jump (38-06.75) and sixth in the long jump (17-10.25).
