PITTSBURGH – Pitt softball head coach Holly Aprile and her staff have announced the dates and times for 2014 Winter Camps. These camps will be held at the Charles L. Cost Sports Center located on the University of Pittsburgh’s Oakland campus.
The first camp to be offered is the Prospect Skills Camp which will take place on Nov. 15 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. This camp is designed for girls entering high school who are interested in playing softball at the collegiate level. The camps will consist of live-game situations, advanced hitting and fielding skills and the opportunity for athletes to showcase their skills to the Pitt coaches. A second Prospect Skills Camp will also be offered on Nov. 23.
The second camp is a Pitching and Catching Prospect Camp open to players entering grades 8-11. The camp will occur on Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This camp’s main focus will be on the improvement of both catching and pitching mechanics and fundamentals. Catchers can expect to learn certain skills such as receiving, blocking, throw downs, pick-offs and bunt coverage while pitchers can expect to learn drills that will help with speed and balance as well as defensive fundamentals.
The next camp will be an All Skills Camp on Dec. 13 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. This camp will be open to girls entering grades 5-8 and will offer campers the opportunity to improve on all aspects of the game and help build a great softball foundation.
The final event is the Elite Slap/Bunting Clinic. Players entering grades 9-12 will be able to attend the camp which will be taking place on December 14 from 9-11 a.m. This clinic will teach participants how to be offensive weapons on the field by having them learn advanced techniques in slapping and bunting.
The Pittsburgh Softball winter camps are great ways to take an aspiring softball player to an offensive and defensive threat on the field. Campers can expect defensive skill practice in: bunt coverage, double plays, fly balls and ground balls for field players, along with blocking and framing for catchers, and fastball mechanics, speed drills and various pitches for aspiring pitchers. All of these skills will be taught by Pitt coaches and players.
Athletes can register for any of the camps online at www.pittsoftballcamps.com.
