CLEVELAND – Coming off a perfect 3-0 home stand last weekend, the University of Pittsburgh volleyball team (4-2) looks to carry its momentum into a Tuesday night clash with Cleveland State (5-2). First serve between the Panthers and the Vikings is set for 7 p.m at Woodling Gymnasium.
A LOOK BACK:
The Panthers claimed the Pitt Panthers Invitational championship title last weekend by defeating Coastal Carolina, Howard and Butler, all via three set sweeps. Jasmine Dittrich was named Tournament MVP, while Alexa Campbell and Lindsey Zitzke were named to the all-tournament team.
Sophomore Kate Yeazel had a breakout performance in the championship game against the Butler Bulldogs as she finished with a career-high 14 kills. The Eaton, Ohio native had a tremendous weekend, finishing with 22 kills on 31 attempts, good for a .645 hitting percentage. Her 14 kills against Butler was one shy of her entire season output as a freshman.
SCOUTING THE VIKINGS:
After opening the season with four-consecutive victories, CSU dropped two of three last weekend at the Indiana Invitational with losses coming against the host Hoosiers and Georgia Tech, before concluding the tournament with a win against Bowling Green.
Outside hitter Kara Koch has had an incredible start to the season with 128 kills. She is averaging 5.12 kills per set and is hitting at a .302 clip. Setter Annie Djukic averages 10.72 assists per set.
A LOOK INTO THE SERIES:
Pittsburgh leads the all-time series 11-3 and has won the past four matches. Tuesday marks the first time the two teams have met since 1989 when Pitt swept CSU at the Akron Invitational.
