CLEVELAND – The University of Pittsburgh softball team is in action this weekend as the Panthers travel to Cleveland State for a three team tournament with the host Vikings and the Kentucky Wildcats.
Pitt will play both CSU and UK twice, beginning at noon on Saturday with the Wildcats, followed by a game with the Vikings at 2 p.m. Sunday’s action is slated to start at 1 p.m. with Kentucky and concludes with a CSU at 3 p.m.
The Panthers return eight players from a 26-26 overall record in 2012, led by All-Big East performer Holly Stevens. The senior catcher is Pitt’s all-time leader in homeruns and smacked a team-best nine long balls during the 2012 campaign.
The Kentucky Wildcats have 12 players returning from a 30-30 season and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2012. Ten players are back for CSU who went 17-39 overall last season.
Pittsburgh continues its fall-ball schedule next weekend as the Panthers host Youngstown State on Sept. 30th at Vartabedian Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
