Pitt Swept By No. 21 Northern Iowa

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The University of Pittsburgh volleyball team (1-1) dropped a three set decision to No. 21 Northern Iowa (1-1) on Saturday afternoon (19-25, 21-25, 13-25) at the Mortar Board Premier hosted by Purdue University.
Lindsey Zitzke had 17 assists and seven digs, while libero Margy Acton notched 12 digs. Jessica Wynn and Kate Yeazel shared a team-high with six kills apiece. Yeazel connected on six of her 13 swings, good for a .385 hitting clip.
Northern Iowa was paced by Amy Braun who notched a game-best 17 kills, while Meghan Lehman and Krista Degeest each had 10 spikes.
UNI jumped out to an early 11-4 advantage, but Pitt answered with an 11-4 run of its own to tie the first set at 15-15. However, Northern Iowa surged ahead with a 6-2 spurt and ultimately captured the frame 25-19.
Set two featured eight ties and four lead changes, but UNI gained the lead at 12-11 on a kill from Braun and held the advantage for the remainder of the set, taking a 2-0 cushion into the locker room.
Northern Iowa seized control early in the third frame and never looked back, winning the set 25-13 and handing Pitt its first loss of the season.
