King Adds Five Strikeouts to Her Season Total in Loss

SYRACUSE, N.Y.-The University of Pittsburgh softball team dropped an 8-0, six-inning decision to Syracuse at SU Softball Stadium in game one of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman Savannah King (16-13) took the loss on the mound. She struck out the first two batters in the contest - one swinging and one looking - and finished with five in the game. King improved to third overall on the single-season record list for strikeouts with 151 to-date, besting Meghan Bostick's 2006 total of 150.
Syracuse (31-10, 8-2 Big East) got on the board with a home run and a RBI double in the third inning. It added three more runs off two hits in the bottom of the fifth. The Orange ended the game in the bottom of the sixth with three runs off two more hits.
Seniors Niki Cognigni and Kelly Hmiel tallied a hit in the game for Pitt (23-20, 6-9 Big East).
