SEVENTEEN PANTHERS HONORED ON BIG EAST ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

In a year that saw the Pitt football team close out the 2010 season with a 27-10 win over Kentucky in the BBVA Compass Bowl, the Panthers gained acclaim off the field as well with 17 student-athletes being named to the Big East All-Academic team Tuesday.
The league honor recognizes student-athletes who have posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better and completed a minimum of two semesters of academic work.
Myles Caragein (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks), Henry Hynoski (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia Area) and Andrew Janocko (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) headline the list as three-time honorees on the All-Academic Team. Caragein is a mathematics major, Hynoski is on pace to earn his degree in business marketing in May and Janocko is a history major.
Janocko earned his history degree in just three years and is currently enrolled in the School of Education, working towards his Master's degree in instructional learning.
Twice earning All-Academic Team honors are communications major Pat Bostick (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), civil engineering major Pat Costello (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area), business marketing major Max Gruder (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day School), history major Mike Shanahan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) and business marketing major Tyler Tkach (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh).
Bostick also earned his bachelor's degree in communications in just three years and is currently working towards his second degree in media and professional communications. Tkach earned his degree in 2010 and is working towards his MBA.
Nine Panthers were named to the All-Academic Team for the first time including: Dom DeCicco (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson), Kolby Gray (Houston, Texas/Cypress Falls), Kevin Harper (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor), Chris Mike (West Haven, Conn./West Haven), Marco Pecora (Johnstown, Pa./Richland), Tino Sunseri (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic), Andrew Taglianetti (Bridgeville, Pa./Central Catholic), Joe Trebitz (Boca Raton, Fla./West Boca Raton) and Matt Yoklic (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland). Harper is expected to earn his degree in May, graduating in just three years.
In addition to the recognition for his work in the classroom, DeCicco was awarded All-Big East First Team honors at the safety position in 2010. DeCicco is expected to graduate in May of 2011.
