Hartman Records 11 Kills Against Western Michigan

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Junior Lauren Hartman recorded 11 kills, as the University of Pittsburgh women’s volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Western Michigan, this afternoon, at St. John’s Arena. The Panthers fell with scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-21.
Hartman led the way with 11 kills for Pitt (0-2). The middle blocker was 11-for-19, boasting a .526 hitting clip.
Seniors Amy Town and Imani Harper chipped in nine kills, each. Town nearly had a double-double, as she collected 11 digs in the match.
Setter Allyson Hodnik recorded 20 assists in three sets, while Alyssa King added 15. King had 13 assists in the third set, on 16 of Pitt’s kills.
Defensively, freshman Margy Acton recorded 11 digs in the match.
In the first set, Harper and sophomore Michelle Walker tied the game at nine with a combined block. However, Western Michigan (2-1) would go on a 6-2 run forcing the Panthers to take a timeout.
Senior Rachel Kalberer gave the squad a lift with a kill, coming out of the huddle. A few serves later, Hodnik set both Town and Hartman for kills. Pitt trailed 18-16 following a kill from senior Brittany Fallis.
However, a 7-3 run would give the Broncos a 1-0 advantage in the match. Pitt recorded a .303 hitting percentage in the first set.
In the second set, Hartman led all with a game-high .600 hitting clip. She also had a set-high with five kills and a .500 clip in the third contest.
During the third set, Pitt also served three aces. Town recorded two and senior Tara Rohall added the third.
The Panthers face Ohio State at 7 p.m. in the final game of the Sports Import Classic.
