PITTSBURGH — Former University of Pittsburgh women’s basketball All-American guard Shavonte Zellous has recently been named one of six Indiana Fever players on the WNBA’s annual all-star ballot. The six Indiana players marks the highest number for a single team in WNBA history.
Zellous, playing in her second season in the WNBA was recently acquired by the Indiana Fever from the Tulsa Shock. Following a rookie season in which she was selected to the 2009 adidas All-Rookie First Team after finishing second in scoring amongst rookies (11.9 ppg.), Zellous got off to a slow start with Tulsa before being traded to Indiana.
Since joining the Fever, Zellous has averaged nearly eight points per game, including a season-high 23-point effort in a 78-73 win over the New York Liberty in which she went 6-for-10 from the field and 10-for-12 from the free throw line.
Fans can vote for their favorite WNBA players for the all-star game which will feature the WNBA squad taking on the USA Basketball team. Voting will continue until June 21, 2010.
