PITTSBURGH—Pitt’s softball team concludes regular-season action this week, as it travels to Rutgers for a three-game series beginning Saturday, May 8, with a noon doubleheader. The two will then play a single game at noon on Sunday.
The Panthers (26-22, 9-9 Big East) are coming off a split against cross-town rival Robert Morris. Pitt dropped the first game 3-2, despite junior Cory Berliner collecting a season-high nine strikeouts. In the second contest, the Panthers won 7-1 thanks to six runs off five hits in the fourth inning.
Junior Alyssa O’Connell earned her 12th victory of the season in that win. She and Berliner have combined for 24 wins on the year and each have an ERA under 2.00.
Junior Reba Tutt leads the Panthers with a .356 batting average in conference play, while classmate Ashley Amistade is batting at .331 overall.
The Scarlet Knights enter the weekend at 22-29 overall and 7-11 in league play. Rutgers earned a 2-1 victory over Long Island, in eight innings, this week.
Pitt leads the all-time series, 13-10. However, both teams have split the last two doubleheaders. Last year, the Panthers earned a 3-0 shutout in game one. Then, Tutt smacked a three-run homer in a 6-5, eight-inning loss in game two.
