Softball Resumes Play At Trees Field on Saturday

PITTSBURGH—After taking a break for finals, Pitt’s softball team resumes action this weekend, with a three-game series against Syracuse. Action begins on Saturday, May 1, with a noon doubleheader and concludes on Sunday, May 2, with a single-game at noon.
Pitt is led by junior Reba Tutt with a .364 batting average in league play. She is currently on a three-game home-run streak, while boasting a .764 slugging percentage. Tutt is also tied for third in hits (20) and homeruns (6) among the 13 conference teams.
On the mound, both junior pitchers Cory Berliner and Alyssa O’Connell rank in the top five of the Big East in ERA. Berliner boasts a 1.75 for second overall, while O’Connell is fourth at 2.00. Combined the two have struck out 181 batters and earned 22 wins for the Panthers.
Sophomore short stop Niki Cognigni leads the conference in assists (122), while first baseman Ciera Damon is the leader in putouts (354).
Pitt enters the weekend with a 24-20 overall record and an 8-8 Big East total. The Panthers are currently a full game behind the Orange, who are 9-7 in the league and 27-20 on the season. Last year, Syracuse won the doubleheader (8-3, 4-0).
