Cleveland State Defeats Men's Soccer 2-0

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Pitt men's soccer team was dealt its second consecutive loss when it fell to Cleveland State 2-0 Wednesday night at Krenzler Field. Pitt now falls to 5-4-1 on the year, while Cleveland State improves to 5-6-0.
The Panthers entered the half with a 2-0 deficit that they were unable to recover. In the 27th minute Brian Donnelly scored on an unassisted goal to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead.
With under ten minutes left in the half, Cleveland State was rewarded its second tally of the night after an own goal was committed on behalf of Pitt. The unintentional goal allowed Cleveland State to retain the 2-0 lead for the rest of the game.
Freshman goalkeeper Matt Aberegg made his first career start against Cleveland State. He made four saves in his Panther debut.
Cleveland State held the advantage in shots, leading Pitt 11-6 on the night.
Freshman Ryan McKenzie tallied two shots to lead the team and tie a career-high. He also tallied one of the Panthers' three shots on goal.
Five Pitt players played the full 90 minutes: Alex Betancourt, Shane Flowers, Andy Kalas, Sam Luffy and Connor Malone.
Pitt will return home on Saturday, Oct. 9 to face Big East opponent Marquette. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. at Founders Field.
