Perkins Places Sixth in the Finals of the 60M Dash

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.—Senior Sam Perkins placed in the finals of the 60M dash, as Pitt’s track and field team competed in the first day of action in the Penn State National Open. Additionally, sophomore Cambrya Jones ran in the semifinals of the 60M dash for the women.
Perkins tied for eighth in the prelims and semifinals (6.88) of the 60M dash. He then improved in the finals, claiming sixth overall and posting an IC4A qualifying time.
Also clocking in under the IC4A standard, freshman Tashaun Hill just missed the semifinals of the 60M hurdles with a time of 8.22.
Senior Nick Malenka qualified for the Big East Championships after clearing 4.65M in the pole vault. He finished fourth overall.
In another Big East qualifying performance, sophomore Folarin Ijelu finished 15th in the long jump with a leap of 6.81M.
On the women’s side, Jones advanced to the semifinals of the 60M dash, after she tied for seventh in the prelims at 7.55. Her time was .13 seconds under the ECAC standard.
Earlier in the night, freshman Rachael McIntosh finished eighth in the pentathlon with 3,576 points. Her best event of the day was the 800M run, where she placed fourth with a time of 2:24.95.
Freshman Ashley Woodford finished in the top 20 of the 60M dash, while senior Brianna Broyles claimed a top-20 finish in the 60M hurdles.
The Penn State National Open concludes Saturday evening with the men’s and women’s 4x400M relays.
