Dooley and Town Earn All-Nittany Lion Invitational Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.—Senior Meagan Dooley and junior Amy Town earn all-tournament honors, this evening, at the conclusion of the Nittany Lion Invitational, as the University of Pittsburgh women’s volleyball team suffered just its second loss of the season to No. 1 Penn State, 3-0, held at the Recreation Building on PSU’s campus. Pitt slipped to 5-2 in the contest with scores of 20-25, 16-25 and 18-25.
In the three matches this weekend, Dooley led the Panthers with a .481 hitting percentage, tallied 32 kills and 11 blocks. Town led the squad against Penn State with 14 kills, and posted 44 kills and 12 digs during the tournament.
This evening, the Panthers held a slight lead in the first set, after Town recorded a kill and gave the Pitt a 5-2 advantage. Later, a kill from senior Melissa Stadelman would tie the game at 15.
Sophomore Allyson Hodnik would set junior Imani Harper a few plays later to keep the Panthers close and knot the score at 18. However, the Nittany Lions would rally three consecutive points and take the eventual win.
Pitt committed seven errors in that opening set.
In the second set, Dooley and Town recorded a game-high four kills, a piece. Dooley posted a .800 hitting clip, going 4-for-five in the contest. Additionally, Hodnik recorded 11 assists on Pitt’s 12 kills.
Hodnik collected an assist on all 13 of Pitt’s kills, in the third set, which was a game high. Additionally, Town tallied a set high seven kills and two digs.
Senior Michelle Rossi recorded a match-high 13 digs in the contest.
The Panthers will make a short trip down Forbes Ave., on Tuesday, Sept. 8, for a match against Duquesne at 7 p.m.
