PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Senior Meagan Dooley repeated as Big East Player of the Week, this afternoon, after leading Pitt's women's volleyball team to a 2-0 conference start. This is the fourth time in Dooley's career she was named player of the week.
"This is a great honor for Meagan and the program," head coach Toby Rens said. "Meagan is the type of player that makes others around her better."
In the squad's Big East opener against Marquette, Dooley recorded a .565 hitting percentage that aided in Pitt's season-best hitting percentage of .400. Additionally, her 14 kills were a team-high against the Golden Eagles. On the next day, she recorded a season-high .609 hitting clip, posting 15 kills in the team's sixth shutout of the year.
She also led the conference with a 4.83 kills per set mark and 5.92 points per set. Defensively, Dooley led with 10 blocks on the weekend, and is now three rejections away from moving into third on the all-time career blocks list.
"She's constantly challenging herself and her teammates," Rens added. "I think she would also be the first to admit that she has great players around her, making her job easier."
As a team, the Panthers recorded their sixth shutout of the year with the straight-set victories over Marquette and Syracuse. Pitt also remained perfect at Fitzgerald Field House, improving to 6-0 at home.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Cincinnati.
