No. 3 Ranked Bulls Edge Panthers, 2-1

INDIANOLA, Pa. — The University of Pittsburgh men’s soccer team dropped a hard fought match to the third-ranked Bulls from the University of South Florida here today at Founders Field.
South Florida jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the first half, scoring just 15 minutes into the game. The Bulls picked up there first goal in the 15th minute of the game when Andre Mittoo scored from five yards out. Ashani Fairclough and Fernando Gonzalez were both credited with an assist on the goal.
A crucial foul on the Panthers allowed the nationally ranked Bulls to push their lead to 2-0 six minutes into the second half. Bernardo Anor capitalized on a penalty kick, slamming the ball into the right-hand corner of the goal past a diving Keegan Gunderson (Circle Pine.Minn/Shattuck-St. Mary’s).
Pitt’s offense pressed late in the second half and cut the USF lead to 2-1 when junior Justin Boehm (South Park, Pa./South Park) scored off an assist from senior Matt Baker (Bethlehem, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) in the 85th minute. The Panthers offense continued to challenge South Florida’s defense to no avail as the Bulls were able to hold on to their fourth win in Big East Conference play.
The Panthers will continue their four-game home stand with a Saturday, Oct. 3rd match against the visiting Providence Friars. Game time is set for 1p.m. at Founders Field.
