PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh men's soccer team fell for the second straight time this weekend to a Big East opponent, dropping a 5-0 contest to the 13th-ranked Cardinals at Cardinal Park in Louisville, Ky.
The Cardinals (5-0-1, 2-0-0 Big East) broke the game open, scoring three times within a two minute span in the first half. Paolo Delpiccolo put Louisville up 1-0 in the 19th minute of the game while Othaniel Yanez and Buck Tufty each tallied a goal in the ensuing 90 seconds to quickly make it 3-0 in favor of the Cardinals.
Louisville outshot the Pitt (1-6-0, 0-2-0 Big East) 19-6 for the game, including a 13-1 second half advantage. Freddie Braun made it 4-0 Cardinals after scoring off a Ryan Smith crossing pass. Brent Rosendall tacked on the final goal of the game with just over a minute remaining to seal the win for the Cardinals.
The Panthers will look to rebound this coming weekend as they host DePaul and USF in Big East action at Founders Field. The Panthers and Blue Demons are set for a 7 p.m. showdown on Friday, Sept. 25 while Pitt and USF will meet on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m.
