Women's Volleyball Upsets No. 18 Wichita State

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Pitt’s women’s volleyball team upsets No. 18 Wichita State, as the Panthers earned a shutout 3-0 victory in its second match of the Sheraton Cardinal Classic, this afternoon, at Cardinal Arena. Pitt improved to 2-0 on the season, posting scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-21.
The Panthers defeated a team that came off a 29-0 regular season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2008. This afternoon, Pitt proved to be the better team as it held the Shockers to a .099 hitting clip and out-blocked them 10-9.
Senior Meagan Dooley led the Panthers with 16 kills and seven blocks, while junior Imani Harper tallied a .800 hitting percentage, going 8-for-10 in the contest. Senior Michelle Rossi recorded a match and season high 21 digs, while setter Allyson Hodnik tallied 33 assists for the Panthers.
The Panthers best defensive set of the match came when they held Wichita State to just 11 kills and a .000 hitting clip in the third and final set. During that same game, junior Amy Town and Dooley recorded four kills for Pitt.
The Panthers face Arizona at 5 p.m., this evening.
