PITTSBURGH—Head Softball Coach Holly Aprile announced the signing of one additional freshman for the incoming class of 2010. A catcher from San Pedro, Calif., Holly Stevens will join Emily Nowicki and Krista Rodgers when the three start classes at Pitt in the fall.
Earlier this week, Stevens scored the winning run as her San Pedro High School team won its fourth consecutive Los Angeles City Section title. Prior to that championship game, Stevens recorded a .400 batting average with four home runs, two triples, five doubles, drove in a team-high 31 RBI and scored 22 runs. Three of those four long balls came in the playoffs, leading the Stevens being named the 2009 L.A. City Player of the Year.
Stevens led her team to a Marine League title this season with the top seed in the L.A. City Section playoffs, finishing the year with a 28-4 record. Additionally, Stevens has earned 2008 Press Telegram Dream Team honors and is a 2008 Daily Breeze All-Area Team member.
Nowicki, Rodgers and Stevens will join the Panther’s 17 returning letterwinners from the 2009 season.
