Baker Named Big East Pitcher of the Week

PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh sophomore right-hander Corey Baker was tabbed as the Big East Conference Pitcher of the Week for the period ending March 23rd for his performance in Pitt’s 5-0 win over the University of Cincinnati on March 21. This award marks the first career Big East honor for Baker.
Baker had a stellar outing in helping the Panthers take two out of three from Cincinnati this past weekend. In Saturday’s matinee, Baker threw a six-hit complete game shutout in a 5-0 win for the Panthers. The New York City native struck out five, walked just one and didn’t allow an extra base hit in his outing.
With this win, Baker improves his record to an impressive 3-0 on the season with an ERA of 2.30 along with 21 strikeouts.
The Panthers look to build upon this impressive weekend when they travel to play the University of Akron on March 24th at 3 p.m.
