Panthers and Eagles Collide on Friday the 13th

PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh wrestling team travels to Clarion, Pa. Friday, Feb. 13 for an Eastern Wrestling League showdown at 7 p.m. Pitt enters the match unbeaten in the EWL at 3-0-1 while Clarion stands at 0-3.
Scouting the Eagles
Clarion enters the weekend with a 7-12 overall record and an 0-3 EWL mark under third year head coach Teague Moore. So far this season, the Eagles have wins over Eastern Michigan (21-12), Columbia (30-12), Pitt-Johnstown (19-12), Northern Colorado (20-18), Gardner-Webb (37-6) Duquesne (40-3) and Millersville (39-3).
Much like Pitt, Clarion has suffered losses against some of the best teams in the nation, including, Rutgers (21-15), #10 Boise State (31-6), #22 Kent State (22-13), #16 Northwestern (29-3), #15 Oklahoma State (44-0), #13 Edinboro (36-4), #20 Indiana (49-0) and #26 American (21-18), Virginia (28-9).
Series History
The Panthers and Eagles will be meeting for the 40th time in series history this Friday, Feb. 13. Clarion holds a slight 21-16-2 record in the all-time series. However, the Panthers have been on fire as of late, having won the past seven consecutive meetings and 10 of the last 11, including last season's 23-15 win at home. The Panthers largest win over the Eagles was 31 points, just two years ago in the 2006-07 season.
Clarion's longest winning streak stands at nine, from 1978-1987. Their largest win came back in the 1980-81 season when they were victorious by a 39-8 count over the Panthers.
