Pitt Head Coach Agnus Berenato Opening Statement:
"I just want to say congratulations to Pitt and to the Women's basketball team. I thought it was a marquee win to win against an SEC team that beat us last year at their place. I thought for thirty minutes our intensity took me back to the Maryland game a year ago when Maryland was ranked number eight. I thought that our student athletes really played, and they took what the defense gave them, they had the outside shot, they took it and went up to the inside. I thought that our defensive effort was spectacular. I really want to give kudos to Coach Williams, I thought that he had a fabulous game tonight and his game plan worked to perfection. I thought that defensively we were really ready. We practiced the game plan, we rehearsed the game plan, we talked about intensity, we talked about playing the game and I thought for the first thirty minutes of the game we really looked like a good basketball team. I think that the women's basketball team is going to be very exciting this year."
On Jania Sims and Taneisha Harrison...
"Taneisha came into her own tonight, she had a stellar performance. One thing Florida wasn't prepared for was Jania Sims, and I thought that she was just unbelievable on the court, on the defensive end and on the offensive end, inside and outside. I also thought Chelsea Cole and Kate Popovec really came down and held the post.
On Jania as a stand out point guard...
"Look at the stat sheet, it was pretty impressive, and a direct result of Jania, just penetrating and pulling people up on the outside. She just has so much confidence, she just rebounds and brings it back up the court. I think that when you have a true point guard, you know that we've talked about this many times, she's a coach on the court, and she's intangible. She's the person that knows when to speed it up and slow it down on the court. I just think that she makes a world of a difference. Once Jania is a senior, she'll be one of the best point guards in the country."
Jania Sims
On her return...
"My wheels are starting to roll now. There are a lot of different things to do before the game to warm up so that I'm fine and ready to go. I never lost my confidence, I always had that, and even if I didn't I know my teammates would pick me up and let me get back to having confidence. I am confident."
Taneisha Harrison
On reaching a career high 25 points...
"I think that we were ready for the game. The coaches have been talking all week about stepping up and I think that's what I had my mindset on making plays tonight, and I think I did. You can expect a lot of three points from me because I've been working on my shot all summer."
