POST-GAME QUOTES Seton Hill at Pitt, November 10, 2009, Petersen Events Center
Pitt Head Coach Agnus Berenato
Opening Statement:
“As far as that game tonight, I’m really glad we got that one under our belt. We started out a little bit rough. I thought that Seton Hill came in here with tremendous spirit and spunk. I’ve been hearing about it for three weeks of how fired up they were for this game. It meant so much to them to come down to the Petersen Events Center and play a Division I team. It meant the world to us because we had the opportunity to see where we are and who’s going to score. I was really pleased with our turnovers, most of the game we had five turnovers. I think if we keep good possession of the ball good things are going to happen. At the four minute mark in the first half, it was a three point game, and I said to the team “we need to crack this game open and go into the locker room up by ten, and we did.” Once we came out in the second half we showed we could dominate. I was disappointed in our performance at the free throw line for us, we didn’t knock them down. But again it was our first game and we know where we are and a lot of work to do which makes it exciting to come to practice tomorrow.”
On coaching against her daughter Clare Berenato and scoring her first collegiate point:
“I was really excited to see that; I’m a mom first, I was really happy I got to see her first college game. I’m really proud of her. She really had to work to get that point, and that was a nice little reverse layup she did. At first I thought how on Earth did we let that little girl score, and then when I saw it was her I got really excited.”
Guard Jania Sims
On being back from last season’s injury:
“I was really excited; it felt really good to run up and down the court again. Coach B asked me how I felt before the game and I told her I was excited and she said to calm down and play your game. When tipoff came I was settled down and able to play my game.”
Guard Shayla Scott
On Jania’s [Sims] return and element she adds to the team:
“Last year we plugged a lot of people in and made it work, we had people step up and play point guard but that’s what Jania does, she makes you feel comfortable and relaxed when we play with her. Knowing she’s out on the floor, we can look to her to calm us down when we get rushed because that’s what’s natural to her. This will make us better than last year because we know our point guard is back.”
