PITTSBURGH-As Pitt’s first-ever softball player to compete on the professional level, Jessica Dignon returns to her alma mater this season as an assistant softball coach for the Panthers. Dignon joins Holly Aprile's staff alongside Gina Bianchini.
Dignon led Pitt to each of its three Big East Championship berths, prior to continuing her softball career professionally with the Washington Glory as a utility player. As a member of the Glory, Dignon aided the team’s 30-win season with a game against the New England RipTide, where she scored three runs and hit a three-run homer for an 11-2 victory.
As a Panther, Dignon was a four-year starter at either third base or short stop. She set or tied school career records for RBI (113) and doubles (45) and single-season doubles (17), runs scored (43) and RBI (44). She was also Pitt's first three-time All-Big East selection.
Just before joining the Glory, Dignon was named to the ECAC Softball All-Star second team, making her one of the first two Panthers to earn that distinction.
