Women's Volleyball Slips Against No. 13 Wisconsin

LEXINGTON, Ky.--Sophomore Amy Town led Pitt's women's volleyball team with 10 kills against No. 13 Wisconsin, as the Panthers fell 3-0 in their second game of the Kentucky Classic. Pitt falls to 0-2 on the season, while the Badgers improved to 2-0 with set scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-16.
Town (Orillia, Ont./Orillia) tallied 10 kills and seven digs in the contest, while senior Nicole Taurence (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) set up 13 points and added six digs and a season-high four block assists.
Taurence and Town combined on a play in the second set, where Town gave the Panthers a one-point deficit at 9-8 after trailing 7-3 early on. A short rally from Wisconsin increased the advantage to 16-9, prior to a kill from senior Jessica Moses (North Olmstead, Ohio/Lutheran West) for Pitt's 10th point of the set.
Sophomore Meagan Dooley (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) closed the gap again at 21-17 with a kill from Taurence. However, the badgers would pull away again and take a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-19 victory.
Senior Stephanie Ross (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) recorded two aces off her serve and posted two of the team's seven kills in the opening set.
In the third set, Dooley led Pitt with a .333 hitting clip and two block assists.
Pitt's libero Michelle Rossi (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) recorded 11 digs in the match, while senior Kelly Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Pacific) chipped in 10.
The Panthers close out play in the Kentucky Classic against Western Carolina at 5 p.m., later this afternoon.
